![]() ![]() Surely Motorhead, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest would've been enough to suffice I would imagine as I can't say I hear anything on Obsessed by Cruelty that subtlety hints at the likes of Raven or Tank, apart from maybe a single section in 'Nuctemeron', or perhaps the blues rock progression of 'Proselytism Real' that you have to pay close attention to in order to hear it properly as a blues riff as its been thrust into the frenetic world of. ![]() Many of these bands NWOBHM bands seem to be forgotten by today's listeners, but I wonder if the world of heavy metal music could've gotten to where it is without some of the lesser remembered acts such as Tygers of Pan Tang, Tank, and Raven. Surely that's not too surprising, I mean Voivod's debut album War and Pain was also a long way away from Tank and Motorhead's more accessible rock n' roll style, but I couldn't help but feel a bit more at home with Sodom when I found out that many of the bands that influenced them were bands that I enjoy from the NWOBHM movement, lest I forget to mention Raven and most obviously, Venom. One may not realize it by listening solely to their damn near death metal debut album, Obsessed by Cruelty, but Sodom were heavily influenced by the likes of bands like Tank and Motorhead. ![]()
